Our treatments

IPL - Intense Pulsed Light

In this treatment, the area of the mammary glands on the border of the lower eyelid is irradiated with strong flashes of light. The treatment is performed in four 15-minute sessions performed every 1-2 weeks. The treatment in our clinic is performed with a device called Optilight - the only one approved by the FDA for the treatment of blepharitis. Treatment with this device has been shown in many studies to improve the quality of the fat secreted from the glands, reduce the chronic inflammation present in patients with blepharitis, and reduce the symptoms of the disease for a period of six months. After the first four treatments, another single treatment should be performed once every six months. The treatment is painless, and lasts about 20 minutes. An improvement in symptoms will often be felt starting with the second treatment, and will intensify, with some patients reporting an improvement in symptoms even after the first treatment.

Gentle scrubbing of the edge of the eyelid

In situations where the fat glands on the edge of the eyelid are blocked and inflamed, the edge of the eyelid can be scrubbed with a special rotating brush. This treatment, called Microexfoliation, provides relief for up to several months in the symptoms of blepharitis. The treatment allows deep cleaning of keratin and bacterial plaque formed at the opening of the mammary glands, dandruff and other pests. The treatment is painless and takes a few minutes for each eye.

Installation of plugs in the tear ducts - Punctal Plugs

The tear ducts lead the tears from the eye to the nasal cavity. Each eye has an upper opening and a lower opening for the tear ducts. These openings are found on the edge of the eyelid, near the nose. In patients who suffer from dry eye despite treatment with tear substitute gels and lubricating ointments, the tear ducts can be closed with the help of tiny silicone plugs called Punctal Plugs. The treatment takes about five minutes and is performed in the clinic and not in the operating room. The corks are invisible to the naked eye, and are not felt. Putting them on significantly increases the degree of wetting of the eye, helps in restoring the surface of the eye and reduces the need for the use of tear substitutes. The treatment is reversible, and removing the plugs, if required, also takes about two minutes and is performed in the clinic.

Deep cleaning of the eyelid rim

In our clinic, mechanical squeezing of the sebaceous glands on the edge of the eyelids is performed. This treatment has been proven in clinical studies to be useful in chronic inflammation of the eyelids - blepharitis. The squeezing is done using dedicated tweezers by skilled staff members. It allows the glands to be freed from rigid waxy fat, keratin, and eyelid parasites, which cause chronic inflammation and destruction of the glands. This treatment should be performed every period (similar to treatment at a dentist) and in order to preserve its results for a longer period of time, it is recommended to make sure to clean the eyelid rim daily with eyelid wipes or a dedicated shampoo.
